CCEC Visitor Centre’s Interpretive Hall and Trail System

The Visitor Centre will raise awareness in tourists and local communities of the plight of endangered painted dogs and promote Hwange National Park as one of the last remaining refuges of the endangered painted dog.

The Painted Dog Interpretive Hall will teach visitors about the natural history of the painted dogs and the Hwange ecosystem to which they belong. A series of seven large paintings illustrate the story of painted dog’s life and the obstacles he encounters.

The interpretive walkway and trail system wanders through two enormous enclosures, inviting visitors to look for painted dogs from the adjacent Painted Dog Rehabilitation Facility, while they explore the surrounding teak woodlands.  In the process, visitors will learn about painted dogs and the ecosystem to which they belong, through an extensive series of interpretive trail signs.

The Visitor Centre will raise funds for the children’s bush camp programme through solicited donations and gift shop sales.

Transportation to the Visitor Centre will be provided for local communities for special educational events.

The facility was opened on the 31st August 2007.
